Elise has been sleeping soooo late these days! She just keeps pushing her bedtime so that she sleeps around 10 every night. The nice part is that she wakes up around 8, which actually allows us to sleep in a little every morning. Anyway, I can't wait until daylight savings so that she can be sleeping at 9, which is still too late, but then again, we don't want to wake up before 7. (Not sure how I worked at a job that started at 7:30 am, and traffic).
When I dropped off Elise this morning, there was an Asian girl who was crying pretty hard, sitting on the rug with the rest of the students during bible time. When I asked Elise about it tonight she responded, "That was Emma. She cried and cried and cried. She cried so much and she didn't stop. She doesn't know how to talk either". Hahha! I think Emma is probably a recent immigrant and doesn't know English. Poor girl, but many of us have been there!!

In the classroom
Ack, I keep falling out of the blogging groove even though so many cute things happen everyday!
Just wanted to quickly write-in to say that I came to an important epiphany last night. I used to always think Elise had the shortest attention span because she never plays with a single toy or activity for long. I have a friend with a toddler who has amazing attention and focus and because Bry and I are not around a lot of toddlers, we just assumed that was the norm.
Well yesterday at Sunday school, I realized that she actually has great attention, at least in a classroom setting. Some of the other teachers comment to me what a great student she is and it wasn't until yesterday that I realized that she actually is one of the best listeners in the class. She focuses intently on what's going on in the class, raises her hand to participate (thank you Ms. Gina!), and is rarely distracted. This was a major realization for me yesterday! Who knows what kind of student she'll be later in a school setting, but I am so relieved to know that I can put my irrational worries to rest about her short attention span. :) (Because, let's be honest, I have major ADD-ish tendencies and I was anxious that she inherited them).

When I picked her up from school today, Elise said, "Did you have a good day at work today?"
Elise is going through a major doctor obsession right now. She got a doc mcstuffins doctor kit and I've never seen her play so much with a toy before.
We went to Disneyland last Saturday on one of the hottest weekends on record. We had a good plan so we were able to avoid the hottest parts of the day either at a restaurant or some indoor attraction. We went with the parks and David used his employee discount to get us in. He's taken us twice, which shad saved us at least $400!
Elise had fun at Disneyland, especially it's a small world ride, which we rode 3 times. But the real highlight of her week was when she accompanied me to a doctor's appointment!

Wooden Swing
Elise's favorite toy, by far, is our wooden swing-- just a block of wood tied to rope on a tree. The fact that she can stand on it and do things that normal swings can't do (twist it, rotate it 360 degrees, etc.) gives endless possibilities for fun. These days, she goes on it everyday and spends at least half an hour playing on it until she's out of breath and her face flushes. It's a major workout for her and I'm so glad we have it!
Today, I was one of the teachers in her Sunday school class and it is so fascinating to see how unique each kid's personality is, even at such a young age. In this class, there are about 15-20 two-year olds and 4 teachers. The teachers are on a rotation and so I see these kids every 3 months and serve one month at a time. It's pretty neat to see how each kid changes every few months and basically develop more as an individual, especially since I knew most of them as babies. But one thing that has become very clear is that there is a HUGE difference between boys and girls. With the exception of maybe one of two boys, the rest of the boys were so wild, aggressive, and defiant. NONE of the girls (at least 10 of them) were like this and most of them were quite eager to please the teachers. You could tell the well-behaved boys are probably just wired this way, too. I know that all the parents are great parents. This nature-nurture thing...so interesting.

Coffee
Elise typically wakes up an hour into her nap and needs to be quietly comforted back to sleep in order to get to the next hour. If you don't catch her at the right window, then she's up for the day. Today, when I went in and patted her, she quickly grabbed her nose like something was wrong. She did a couple sniffs and was like, "Coffee. There's coffee in my nose" and kept sniffing. I just had a cup of coffee but didn't want to say anything because I didn't want her to get too stimulated. Finally she was so intrigued by the sudden coffee smell in her room that she woke up for good and kept asking me why she smelled coffee (which I typically only drink in the mornings). When I told her that I just had some coffee, she was like, "oooooooh...." and then she said, "mama, tell me a joke". I asked her where she learned that (the concept of joke) and she said, "Prince Wednesday" (from Daniel Tiger).
Bry and Elise left to go to a Dodger game now. They're taking the train there and Elise is soooooo excited! Glad Bry has a baseball buddy because I am so not a fan of baseball games!

Neighbors
We found out a few weeks ago that our neighbor kids who live behind us moved to Texas, so now it's just the grandparents living there. I'm pretty bummed since Elise loved playing with them. Just now, we heard the noise of some kids outside, and Elise ran to the window with a huge smile on her face. So sweet to see her excited to hear the sounds of other children. She's definitely a social girl.
In unrelated news, our live have become totally consumed by a show called Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. The Frozen obsession is over and has been replaced by this PBS show that is basically the reincarnation of Mr. Roger's neighborhood. Elise had hand, foot, mouth disease last week and she basically watched Daniel Tiger nonstop. Now that she's healthy, it's so hard to limit screentime to the recommended one hour per day, especially when she's not at school!
